Joe "what a wretch I am" Friberg

Joe has played violin over 30 years, but it's only since singing with the Broken Cords that he has learned to play "fiddle". In fact, when his High School sweetheart, Tammie (now his wife), tried to teach him fiddle, friends back then just said, "That sounds like Mozart, hang it up!" So it seems the "Cords" and age have helped Joe mellow.

The Broken Cords have done other things for Joe as well. Such as tagging on his nickname "what a wretch I am"--or just "wretch" for short--taken from the Romans 7 narration in the middle of "In the Light." The good friends in the Cords help keep each other humble.

Joe and Tammie have three great kids, Joel, Michael, and Jessica, who are growing in the Lord and learning to serve as they grow. Joe runs a pension actuarial practice for his vocation, he has masters degrees in theology and linguistics, and he loves to serve God in the church and in missions. He served on the Old Testament translation committee for the Holman Christian Standard Bible, and helps out as a technical resource for a translation for the Cabécar Indians in Costa Rica. Tammie and Joe head up a discipleship missions ministry, Equip Disciples, aimed at building up every believer for the work of ministry.

"I do not understand what I'm doing. Because I don't do what I want to do, but I do what I hate. What a wretch I am! So who can rescue me? Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:15,24-25)
