In the Spring of 2000 a group of men in the Young Sunday morning Bible study department at First Baptist Arlington realized a shared love of singing and
began to rehearse a musical arrangement of “The Lord’s Prayer” to present to the
rest of the department. From that beginning they began singing for other church
groups and eventually banquets and other gatherings. Although members have come
and gone, all participants share a desire to glorify God and help lead others in
worship.
As we know, the word gospel means good news. The Broken Cords enjoy
singing about the good news through the use of various styles of Christian music
such as 20th century, bluegrass, contemporary, and contemplative.
The name
“Broken Cords” was chosen based on Psalm 116:16. “Yes, LORD, your servant will I
be.... You've broken the cords that used to bind me!” The group wishes to be His
servants as they, like all Christians, have been freed from sin by the Grace of
God.
